My story
My story starts with a box of oranges. My parents supported our newly-immigrated family of five with a fruit stand. Every time someone bought an orange, my father would rearrange the fruit into neat rows. Neat rows meant more sales, he would say. One box a day fed our family. Three boxes a day for a month paid rent. Orange by orange, box by box, we survived and then thrived. One fruit stand became three. And they sent me to college.
My parents didn’t do it alone. They took business and English classes, funded by the government, that gave them a real shot to succeed. When government works for the people, everyone has the ability to not just survive, but to thrive. I am running for office because I want every San Franciscan to have the same chance my parents did to realize their own American Dream.
Boxes of oranges are how I got here today. And I know everyone has their own story of a box of oranges. Personal stories of hopes, dreams, and aspirations for a better life. The hard work it takes to get there. The people and the community that have your back.
Let’s fight for regular Americans like ourselves!
