Who Am I?

I am the proud son of a lower middle class immigrant family.

My parents came to the United States in search of opportunity. They started a fruit stand in Chinatown in New York City and supported a family of five by selling oranges. They taught me about hard work, the value of family, and the importance of civic engagement.

I am the first person in my family to attend college, and I graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a degree in Computer Science. From there, I moved to San Francisco to build software for small business owners like my parents. Small businesses are part of the fabric of our communities and I wanted to help them thrive.

Since then, the world of digital technology is how I’ve earned a living, but working for the public good is my passion. San Francisco was a launch pad for my political involvement: first as a volunteer for Obama, later with Organizing for America, then as an engineer for Hillary Clinton in her campaign headquarters.

After a hard-fought loss in 2016, I realized that better technology—and my skills with technology—were not enough to deliver the movements I believe this nation and its citizens deserve. So I pursued a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Now I am combining my skills in technology, my background in organizing, and my education from Harvard to help raise the voices of those who are traditionally not heard, such as Asian Americans, by getting them to the voting booth.

Following graduate school, I returned to San Francisco with my partner Katie to raise our family and to continue the journey I began a long time ago. I want to make our city—and our country—a place where everyone has a shot. This starts with ensuring that the city remains affordable for middle class families like my own, helping small businesses stay open and thrive, and building a Democratic Party that can lead the nation into a new era of prosperity.

I am honored to continue the journey to make this city and this country a place in which we all love to live.
